Zichy Family
Most of you probably know that Zichydorf was named after Count Karl Zichy de Vasonkeö. Thanks to Pat Haley for forwarding to me some Zichy links that a friend of hers had found. The Zichy family website is at http://www.zichyfamily.com/. It details the history of the family, gives a genealogy, links to some maps, and gives brief biographies of some of the family members, including our Karl. I hope to connect with the site owner to see if there is any room for collaboration. I will put a link on our site and may include a summary on our own pages. Have a look. I think you will find it interesting. Our Karl is on page 36 of the genealogy.
Another link that Pat forwarded to me is to a page about the Thyssen family. They are a famous German industrialist family. You may remember them from their connection to Thyssen elevators and the Thyssen-Krupp industrial firm. One of the male Thyssens married a female Zichy. 2014 Banat Tour
We just returned from our tour to wester n Europe and Banat. It was a hectic three weeks as some of the people had identified a lot of ancestral villages that we visited. In fact, I recently reviewed our itinerary and found that we visited 84 villages, not including overnight and tourist stops. In Zichydorf we donated 200 Euros to the preservation of the church, 200 Euros to the upkeep of the cemetery, and 50 Euros to the village cultural centre, which is working to keep alive the history of our ancestors. Along the way, we acquired a CD of hundreds of images from the Werschetz area and CDs of all past issues of the AKdFF newsletter. I will report on these in more detail after I have had time to study them. I also personally acquired land records for the village of Kudritz, as well as minutes of town council meetings from 1930-1944.
Mihajlo Bančević, of the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Plandište, is quite dedicated to preserving the history of the village, including the original German inhabitants. He wishes to collect as many pictures as possible about the village and its people from the German times. If you have pictures you are willing to share, please send them to me and I will forward them to Mihajlo. This is a way to make a bit of a statement that your family was there, even though they are there no longer.
SGC 30th Anniversary Grant
Thank you to the Saskatchewan German Council which celebrated its 30th anniversary by making donations to all its member groups, including $300 to ZVA. We will put it to use for some future project, perhaps a translation or a records acquisition.
Apfeldorf/Jabuka
We have acquired the 1870 land records for the village of Apfeldorf/Jabuka at no cost. On the ZVA site Main Menu click on Banat > Geography > Apfeldorf/ Jabuka.
Offsenitza
We have acquired digital images of the church books for Offsenitza: baptisms 1807-1881; marriages 1807-1905; deaths 1807-1912 (5.1 GB). For ordering instructions, go to the zichydorfonline.org Main Menu and click on Banat > Genealogy > Church Records Digital Images
Donauschwaben History
Check out this site. It is a description of a joint exhibit by museums in Germany, Serbia, Romania and Hungary about the settlement of the Donauschwaben. It contains a lot of interesting history about our ancestors. You can download the PDF file to save on your home computer.

Membership Reminder
Time to start thinking about 2015 ZVA membership dues. ZVA annual dues of $10 are based on the calendar year. Please check your dues status on the web site. Go to Your Profile in the user menu and look at the last item in the column on the right side of the page where it says “Dues paid to the end of: ____” If you have not yet paid for 2015 , please remit your dues using one of the options described on the Membership page. From September on, I will credit new members for the following year. I will downgrade unrenewed members on the web site in April of each year to give you plenty of grace. We are continually adding new content to the Members Only parts of the site. If you are not connected to the Internet, just drop me a line at the address below and I will update you. Thanks for contributing to our common cause.
ZVA Regina Branch Meeting
